I'm doing a thing! not sure how useful or interesting it'll be for people but i felt like putting it somewhere/showing off how anal i am/showing people what goes on inside my mindhole.
A general guide for optimizing saved tuning presets for every car,
class & application, throughout all Forza titles.
(X=appropriate car class)
GENERAL USE STORY MODE TUNE (X-SP):
a semi-roleplay oriented tune that utilizes real life tuning logic to
create a balanced driving experience throughout all the classes, perfect
for casual story mode play, less useful for specialized game modes and
multiplayer races.
HANDLING TUNE (X-H):
a tune specifically tailored to optimize the drivability of cars that
have unpredictable handling characteristics or to micro manage the
speed/handling ratios of cars with exemplary straight line performance,
not optimal for use in high speed situations.
MAXIMUM POWER TUNE (X-Drag):
whether trying to beat a speedtrap world record, scavenge more power for
multiplayer races or just micro manage the speed/handling ratios of cars
with exemplary cornering ability, this tune will serve you well, not
optimal for use in tight technical situations.
PI OPTIMIZED TUNE (X-PI):
a tune with the sole purpose of boosting those extra few digits on to
the PI scale of a car that is at the limit of it's potential, useful
when a car is not as competitive in it's highest class as you would like
it to be, not always the most practical of tunes and usually comes at
the expense of some aesthetic upgrade choices.
RALLY TUNE (X-Dirt):
primarily used for the rally race type, this tune serves a few purposes,
this type of tune is essential for cars that are going to be used in any
kind of multi-surface racing or even just for the added roleplay feel
and look of an off-road vehicle, fairly useful in tight technical
situations also but less than adequate for most tarmac courses.

Tyres and Weight Reduction modifications are some of the most effective
upgrades as they affect every performance characteristic most of the
time.
Camshaft and other modifications that raise the rev range and and
throttle response of your car are a useful way to maximize engine
performance without tipping over into the next vehicle class.
Aero upgrades usually reduce top speed and improve acceleration, launch,
braking & handling, they are also useful for manipulating the PI scale.
Differential upgrades lower the PI scale but they can be useful for
reducing oversteer & understeer.
