I've been a member of this forum now for a few weeks, and I think it's about time I put my guest privileges to good use.
So I thought I'd open a debate regarding the cars people use for racing. I'll preface all of what I am going to say with the following statement; I am by no means an expert when it it comes to racing. I've been playing GTA for around two years, and I've been taking racing seriously for about a year and a half. One of the first things to cross my mind once I started taking races seriously was "surely there has to be a specific vehicle or vehicles that out perform the rest of the classes". It wasn't too long after this I came across Broughy's testing videos. Say what you want about him and his process, but for me they're a great starting point, but they are not absolute.
So what's the reason for this essay? Well, I wanted to open the discussion as to what cars people use whilst racing. I feel this will serve as a good guide for beginners and the less experienced amongst us, and may provide food for thought for some of us too.
Okay, let's begin... there's 12 classes of vehicle we're interested in here (for the pedantic amongst us, we're ignoring boats, cycles, planes and choppers). Of the 12 I think it's safe to say unless you're doing Long Haul 2 (if this is the case you're looking in the wrong place for your answers) then seven of the classes are relatively straight forward in picking the right car to race with and in my opinion only have one stand out performer, so we'll start with those:
Sports Classics - Stirling GT
Muscle - Custom/Lowrider Sabre Turbo
SUV - Huntleigh
Sedan - Schafter V12 (Armoured)
Off Road - Sanchez <--- No haters please
I know most people won't consider these as worth having, but for completeness I'll include them:
Vans - Gang Burrito
Utilities - Sadler
So this is where it begins to get interesting with the following classes;
Coupes - Personally for me I use the Zion, but I've lately been considering a switch to the Exemplar. The Zion is certainly the easier to drive of the two and does have a hell of a lot of traction, but the Exemplar for what it lacks with the spoiler, certainly makes up in acceleration and top speed. There's always the third option of the Felon GT, but I feel it's out performed on technical tracks by the Zion and on longer tracks by the Exemplar.
Compacts - Rhapsody has always been my vehicle of choice, although I have recently been trying to master the Panto. The Panto is definitely a decent contender if you can learn to drive it propperly. The Blista could also be a viable option, but I feel it is handicapped by being FWD and lacking a spoiler.
Motorcycles - Bati 801/801 RR if you're going to be able to wheelie and Akuma if not. Track will make a huge difference as to which one is the one to use, personally I've used the Bati due to the extra speed you can get from getting the front end up.
I've deliberately left these two for last as I feel this is where the most debate will occur;
Super - this is a difficult one to call as there are so many cars at the top end and you will get different results depending on the track. Zentorno for tight city tracks, Osiris for long flowing city tracks, Entity for at the airport/army base and T20 for everything else. I guess you can throw the Turismo in there too, so take your pick as to which one you wish to use. On a personal note I've switched between T20, Zentorno and recently tried the Osiris. Zentorno is my go to option, however I'm considering changing my one car per class rule to add the other two to my racing garage.
Sports - I've left this one til last deliberately. I'd ideally like to hear what people have to say. Personally I use the Jester Racecar, but I feel strong arguments can be made for the Elegy on tight technical tracks, Massacro and Massacro racecar on the more flowing ones. I can also imagine people will make a case for the feltzer and the 9f.
I'm interested to hear what cars everyone else uses, feel free to give us a list of the cars you use too.
Cheers
